Complaints Investigation Process for Licensed Practical Nurses in Yukon Territory

The Regulatory and Consumer Services division (RCS) of Community Services on behalf of the Yukon Government (YG) is embarking on implementing a process to collect, investigate and respond to complaints respecting the professional skill(s) or judgment(s) of Licensed Practical Nurses in the Territory. This process aims to maintain high standards of professional conduct and ensure accountability of Licensed Practical Nurses in the Territory. To achieve this, RCS in conjunction with the Licensed Practical Nurses Advisory Committee (LPNAC) and the Committee of Inquiry (COI) will in compliance with the Licensed Practical Nurses Act, receive complaints against Licensed Practical Nurses from the public for determination. LPNAC members are appointed by the Commissioner in Executive Council under the Licensed Practical Nurses Act and the COI members are appointed by the chair of the LPNAC under the Act. Through the completion of the Complaint Form for Licensed Practical Nurses, the registrar of licensed practical nurses will refer the complaint to the LPNAC which shall review the matters to determine whether the complaints levied disclose reasonable grounds for determination. Where reasonable grounds for determination are found, the matter is referred to a Committee of Inquiry (COI) constituted for that purpose.
